muncie civic theatre

Muncie Civic Theatre was founded in 1931 and  is one of the oldest civic theatres in the state and is located in one of the oldest theaters in the country. The Muncie Civic Theatre Association was started by William H. Ball who served as board president for the first decade of the theatre’s existence.

We are now in our 90th Season providing East Central Indiana with a variety of high quality entertainment and events performed by community members for the community

The Boyce Block

Muncie Civic is located in the historic Boyce Block in the heart of Downtown Muncie, Indiana.

The Boyce Block was built in 1880 and has witnessed many key events in Muncie’s history.

  • The site of negotiations and signing of the contract that brought the Ball Brothers’ glass-making factory to Muncie
  • A Prohibition-era Vaudville theatre
  • Hosting the Marx Brothers and Red Skelton

Scenic Shop Manager

Facilitates the successful production of scenic needs of the Mainstage and Studio Theatre

Goal: Communicates with Artistic Director, Youth Director, and show directors to oversee set construction for Mainstage and Studio shows. Guides community volunteers in building and painting sets and props. 

Qualities

  • Ability to manage multiple production areas at once
  • Oversee show safety and cleanliness
  • Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and production teams

Requirements

  • Flexible schedule, availability to work some nights and weekends varies with show schedule
  • Construction experience preferred
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Verbal and written communication
  • Must be willing to complete a background check

Duties

  • Works with production teams to set build schedules, acquires materials, oversees set construction
  • Attends tech meetings and tech week rehearsals
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized scene shop
  • Manages and trains volunteers
  • Manages on and off-site storage of scenic elements and props
